One bottle, one plant.

There are too many plastic bottles in the street and there aren’t enough plants in our school. One bottle can fix the two problems.

What is it?

Second Life is our school project. We collect the plastic bottles that people throw away and we turn them into pots for plants. The bottle finishes its first life and it starts a second one.

You don’t have to buy a pot. An old bottle is good enough, and it is free.

Why do we do it?

People drink too much water in plastic bottles, and too many bottles finish in the rubbish after one day.

Plastic is too slow to disappear: it stays here for hundreds of years.

Our school is not as green as we want, too.

Where?

The green box next to the entrance is big enough for 50 bottles. You can leave your bottles there.

We make the pots in classroom 4, and in the school garden as well.

What are the benefits?

A bottle pot is not as expensive as a pot from the shop, but it is almost as strong as one.

You also learn how to grow a plant, and the school looks greener.

It is a good way to make new friends as well as a good way to help the planet.

Who can help?

Everybody. You don’t have to be an artist and you don’t have to bring money.

We are only five students, and five students are not enough people for all the work.

When?

You can bring bottles any day. You don’t have to come every week.

We make the pots on Friday at 2 p.m. One hour is enough time, so it isn’t too long.

How to make a pot

  1. Wash it

    You have to wash the bottle and take off the label. Dirty bottles are too dangerous for the plant.

  2. Cut it

    Cut the bottle in two parts. Ask a teacher: you don’t have to do it alone.

  3. Make the holes

    Make five small holes in the bottom. One hole is not enough for the water.

  4. Be creative

    Now paint it. A face, an animal or a monster: it doesn’t have to be perfect.

  5. Plant it

    Add soil and plant your seed. A small bottle is not big enough for a tree!
